DepEd Implements Asynchronous Classes/Distance Learning Amid Heat Wave and Nationwide Transport Strike

April 28, 2024 - In response to the scorching heat index forecast by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) and the announcement of a nationwide transport strike, the Department of Education (DepEd) has taken decisive action. Here are the key points:

  1. ASYNCHRONOUS CLASSES/DISTANCE LEARNING: On April 29 and 30, 2024, all public schools nationwide will shift to asynchronous classes and distance learning. Students will engage in learning activities remotely, ensuring their safety during the heat wave.

  2. Personnel Safety: Teaching and non-teaching personnel in public schools are exempt from reporting to their respective stations during these two days. Their well-being is a top priority.

  3. Exception for Scheduled Activities: While regular classes are suspended, activities organized by Regional and Schools Division Offices, such as Regional Athletic Association Meets, may proceed as planned. Safety measures for participants will be strictly enforced.

  4. Private Schools: Private schools have the option to implement similar measures, although they are not covered by this advisory.
