Nationwide Earthquake Drill Set for June 28th at 2PM

Be Part of the Second Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill!

June 27, 2024 - Together, let's participate in the upcoming Second Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) happening on June 28th at 2PM. This drill aims to test our disaster preparedness and improve our coordination during an earthquake.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), along with other government agencies, is continuously working to enhance the implementation of the NSED. For this drill, designated regions will be sending representatives to Metro Manila to participate in a full-scale exercise. These representatives will be deployed to specific locations where alternate emergency operations centers will be established. This scenario is based on the Harmonized National Contingency Plan for a Magnitude 7.2 Earthquake caused by West Valley Fault movement.

The NSED is just one of the steps we need to take to be prepared for earthquakes. While helpful, it's not enough. We need to continuously improve our engineering solutions and ensure compliance with building codes.

Cooperation from different sectors is also crucial in programs, projects, activities, and policies related to earthquake preparedness and other hazards. Let's work together to become a safer and more prepared nation.

#BePrepared!

Participate in earthquake preparedness efforts. Save your life and the lives of your loved ones.

Here are some reminders during an earthquake:

  • Duck, cover, and hold. Find a sturdy table or chair to take cover under and crouch down. Protect your head and neck with your arms.
  • Evacuate to a safe zone. If you're indoors, proceed to an open area away from buildings, trees, and power lines. If you're outdoors, move away from buildings, trees, and power lines.
  • Avoid using elevators. Elevators can be dangerous during an earthquake. Use the stairs instead.
  • Stay calm. Staying calm will help you think clearly and make sound decisions.
  • Assist those in need. If you see someone injured, help them.
