Philippines Goes Digital: National ID Now Accessible Through Smartphones and Computers

Filipinos can now experience a more convenient and secure way of identification with the nationwide rollout of the Digital National ID system. This digital version complements the physical PhilSys card (ePhilID) launched in 2021, offering citizens an alternative for presenting proof of identity and age during transactions.

What is the Digital National ID?

The Digital National ID is an official government-issued document accessible through computers and smartphones with an internet connection. It mirrors the information found on the physical ePhilID, including a citizen's full name, date of birth, photo, and a unique QR code. This digital format aims to streamline transactions and improve service delivery across various sectors.

Securing Your Digital ID

Individuals who have already registered for the PhilSys program can easily acquire their Digital National ID through two options:

  • Online Platform: By visiting the official PhilSys website (https://philsys.gov.ph/) and providing basic information for verification, Filipinos can access and download their digital ID. A webcam or smartphone camera is required for a quick live selfie check to confirm identity.
  • eGovPH App: Downloading the eGovPH mobile application allows users to manage their Digital National ID on their smartphones. Similar to the website, the app requires users to confirm their identity through a selfie verification process.
Anyone registered with the National ID can now secure the digital version of their ID through https://national-id.gov.ph/ or the eGovPH mobile application.
