DBM Greenlights 89 New Permanent Positions for National Museum of the Philippines

June 12, 2024 - In a significant move to bolster the operations of the National Museum of the Philippines (NMP), the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman has approved the creation of 89 new permanent positions across various units of the NMP. This decision is part of the DBM’s ongoing efforts to support the existing staff of the agency and further enhance its operations.


The approved organizational and staffing modifications in the NMP are contained in the Notice of Organization, Staffing and Compensation Action that was issued by the DBM on 21 May 2024. This move is expected to significantly boost the operational efficiency of the NMP, which has been instrumental in preserving and promoting the country’s rich cultural heritage.

The DBM’s decision comes at a time when the department has been actively working towards the efficient utilization of the national budget. As of end-May 2024, the DBM has released 88.7 percent of the P5.767-trillion national budget to accelerate the implementation of the state’s programs and projects.

The creation of these new positions is expected to provide a much-needed boost to the NMP’s operations. The museum has been actively involved in various initiatives aimed at promoting the country’s cultural heritage. Recently, the NMP received four sculptures by Joe Datuin, a renowned visual artist, as a gift to the nation. In addition, the museum successfully culminated its extensive repatriation efforts, leading to the safe return of the Sally A. von dem Hagen Collection of Limestone Burial Jars from the Kulaman Plateau.

The DBM’s approval of the new positions underscores the government’s commitment to supporting institutions like the NMP that play a crucial role in preserving and promoting the country’s cultural heritage. With the additional manpower, the NMP is expected to further enhance its capacity to carry out its mandate effectively.

This development is a testament to the DBM’s commitment to ensuring that government agencies are adequately staffed to deliver their services effectively.
