Heroes of the Past: Igniting Creativity for the Future - The 82nd ARAW NG KAGITINGAN Poster Making Contest


In the spirit of patriotism and remembrance, the Philippines is set to celebrate the 82nd ARAW NG KAGITINGAN and Philippine Veterans Week with a Poster Making Contest that aims to honor the valor and sacrifices of Filipino veterans. This contest is a collaborative effort by the Department of Education (DepEd), the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO), the Department of National Defense (DND), and the Veterans Federation of the Philippines.


Contest Objectives: The contest seeks to:

  • Promote awareness of the bravery and sacrifices of Filipino veterans.
  • Foster patriotism among the youth.
  • Encourage creative expressions that reflect the history, heroes, and historical places in the Philippines during World War II.
  • Remind us of the reasons why we enjoy freedom today.

Eligibility:

  • Open to all students enrolled in Grades 7, 8, and 9 from public and private secondary schools nationwide.
  • Previous winners of contests organized by the Special Events Unit are not eligible to participate.

Contest Details:

  • Theme: “BETERANO: "PAGKILALA SA KATAPATAN, BALIK TANAW SA SAKRIPISYO AT PAG-ALAALA NG KABAYANIHAN”
  • Poster size: 15" x 20" illustration board
  • Medium: Contestants may use any medium of their choice.
  • Description: The poster must be described in one or two sentences, typewritten on a ½ A4 bond paper, and attached to the back of the entry together with the name of learner, contact number, school, division, region. 

Submission Requirements:

  • The Philippine Flag should not be the focus of the poster. If included, it must be placed conspicuously to show its importance.
  • Entries must adhere to the guidelines of Republic Act No. 8491 regarding the use of national symbols.

Judging Criteria:

  • Adherence to the Scope and Objective - 25%
  • Creativity and Originality - 30%
  • Composition - 25%
  • Visual Impact - 20%
  • TOTAL - 100%

Submission and Announcement:

  • Entries must be uploaded by the coach on the official Facebook page: “NATIONAL POSTER MAKING CONTEST” - 2024, VETERANS WEEK 82nd ARAW NG KAGITINGAN.
  • Winners will be announced after the competition and awarded at Mt. Samat Shrine, Pilgrimage Bataan, on April 9, 2024.

Deadline:

  • Entries must be submitted by March 25, 2024, to the External Partnerships Service at DepEd Central Office.

This contest is not just an opportunity for artistic expression but also a meaningful way to engage with the nation’s history and pay tribute to those who fought for our freedom.
