GCash Warns Users of Phishing Scam: Never Click Verification Links Outside the App

July 09, 2024 - GCash, the leading mobile wallet service in the Philippines supervised by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), is reminding users to be vigilant against phishing scams.

In a social media post, GCash cautioned users about receiving messages supposedly from them that ask for account verification through a link. The post emphasizes that GCash will never ask users to verify their accounts outside the GCash app.

"'Wag agad i-click dahil scam link 'yan!' (Don't click it right away, it's a scam link!)" the GCash post states.

The social media message serves as a timely reminder for Filipinos to be cautious of online scams. Clicking on these malicious links can lead to theft of personal information, account login credentials, and even financial loss.

Here's how to stay safe from GCash phishing scams:

  • Never click on verification links received via SMS, email, or social media messages.
  • Always verify the sender. Legitimate messages from GCash will come from verified GCash accounts on social media or official GCash phone numbers.
  • For account inquiries, log in to the GCash app and chat with Gigi, the virtual assistant, or visit the GCash Help Center.
  • Remember, GCash will never ask for your MPIN or OTP through these channels.

By following these simple steps, users can protect themselves from falling victim to phishing scams and ensure the security of their GCash accounts.
